About Lusail Stadium
The design of Lusail Stadium reflects the hand-crafted bowls and lanterns found in the Arab and Islamic worlds during the emergence of civilisation. The golden exterior fades over time, replicating aged metal handicrafts to create an environment rich in culture.
A state-of-the-art material called Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) protects the stadium from warm wind, keeps out dust and allows in enough light for the pitch to grow while providing shade to reduce the burden on the stadium’s air conditioning.
Lusail Stadium Legacy and Sustainability
In line with Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development, Lusail Stadium will be transformed into a community space with schools, shops, cafes, sports facilities, and health clinics.
According to the FIFA website, some tournament installations will be removed to make way for these new amenities. The materials removed will be preserved, repurposed, and donated to communities that need sporting infrastructure.
The upper tier of the building could be re-purposed as outdoor terraces for new homes and a football pitch for the community.
Throughout the construction process, sustainable building practices were used. The stadium uses recycled water to irrigate plants. Water-efficient fixtures and leak-detection systems are in place. Lusail Stadium has received a 5-star rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System.
Post-2022, people will be able to reach the facility by using the Lusail Light Rail Tram.
