About Khalifa Stadium
Since its inauguration in 1976, Khalifa International Stadium has hosted a number of memorable sporting events. The stadium was refurbished for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Formerly hosting the Arabian Gulf Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and IAAF World Athletics Championships, this venue also hosted the world’s greatest football show.
Redevelopment Works
The new tier added 10,450 seats to the capacity, while the stadium now features a new facade. The new LED lighting system adds a new dimension to the fan experience.
One of the stadium’s most recognizable features has always been its magnificent dual arches. These remain intact – but now feature a wide canopy stretched out below them. It complements the stadium’s cooling system to keep players and fans comfortable.
Upon reopening in May 2017, it played host to the Amir Cup Final, Qatar’s most beloved club football event.
Aspire Park & Villagio Mall
Aspire Park, Doha’s biggest park covering an area of 88 hectares is located next to the Khalifa Stadium.
There are several fun features in the park, including beautiful fountains and playgrounds for children. It features a lake, a small hill, a coffee shop with a variety of beverages, and various kinds of trees, both rare and common.
Another attraction next to Khalifa Stadium is the Villaggio Mall, a shopping mall with over 200 stores, including many luxury brands. The mall contains the Gondolania Theme Park, an indoor theme park which includes the Gondolania Ice Rink, one of two ice hockey rinks in Qatar.
The Torch Doha hotel – a distinctive skyscraper built for the 2006 Asian Games, watches over the stadium.
