As you celebrate the joyous occasion don’t forget to complete the official formalities related to childbirth. Registering your baby’s birth and getting a Qatar Birth Certificate is pretty easy if you do them step by step.
As per law, every child born in Qatar should be registered with the Ministry of Public Health. For those who are preparing for the birth of your baby, this article explains the steps, documents, fees and other details about Qatar birth certificate.
Why Birth Certificate is Important
A birth certificate is a government-issued document that contains information about a child’s name, place of birth, gender, and parents’ names. The birth certificate provides formal recognition by the state of a child’s birth and is a permanent and official record of a child’s existence.
All babies born in Qatar must be registered and provided with a birth certificate. It is also required at the time of applying for the child’s Passport or a Residence Permit and even for school admission in the future.
NOTE: Children born to foreign nationals are not entitled to Qatari nationality. Expatriate parents are also responsible for registering their child’s birth with their home country’s embassy.

good morning, my child born in WWRC Birth Certificate was issued by MOPH. Should I do any municipality attestation for the birth certificate. If so, which office I should go. Please advice.
Hi Amila, You don’t need any attestation for birth certificate issued by Qatar MOPH. Once you get passport, you can apply for baby’s QID.
What is the maximum days to apply birth certificate
Hi Shibu, Apply as soon as possible because QID should be applied within 2 months. So you need time for birth certificate and passport.
The birth certificate issued to me had the baby’s name spelt incorrectly. When my husband attended moph to address the issue, he was told we need a letter from our embassy that they are happy for a name change…however the British embassy state no letter is needed for this correction, furthermore baby does not have any travel documents yet
Hi Sabana, If the baby doesn’t have passport yet, you don’t need letter from Embassy. You need to explain this to the MOPH personnel that baby doesn’t have passport and it is only spelling correction.
Yes we did do this, but they don’t seem to understand. It is very frustrating and I am being passed from pillar to post. It’s hard enough trying to recover from surgery and have a husband who works full time so can’t attend many of these governmental offices in their operating hours
Hi Sabana, Sorry to hear that. Only the birth certificate office can resolve this.
Please tell me how can i check birth certificate status
Hi Dileep, There is no option to check online. You can call on their helpline.

Do we need an attestation for a Birth Certificate from MOFA, if the baby was born in Doha and has a Birth Cert from MOPH for Residence Permit application?
Hi Doha guides,
What is birth notification authorization letter?
Select whichever parent is included in the “information particulars” section of the document given to you by the hospital during registration. Thus, the authorization letter will not be issued.
Hi Doha Guides,
Thank your for the immediate response.
What I mean the father is in our country his not residence of Qatar.
I got pregnant when I went back to our country and planning to give birth here in QATAR. Please note that all my documents is valid (QID,Passport (mother) and photocopy of fathers passport) and Marriage Certificate.
My question is there any problem that I will be encountering while applying the birth certificate of the baby once I give birth here in Qatar?even the father is not here?and the original passport is not with me? Thank you in advance.
Hi Mona, Sorry, we could not find any official information about your situation as the father’s QID is shown as a requirement. Normally if you are on an employment visa, you would need your employer’s approval to sponsor a child. We do not want to advise you on something which we are not sure about. So kindly check with HMC in advance.
How long it takes to get birth certificate? it’s been 10 days since i registered and it was under process. But i didn’t receive SMS from MOPH.
Hi TZB, Usually it takes less than a week. Nowadays most things are delayed. You will receive an SMS when it is ready.
Hi Doha Guides, I also applied Birth Certificate online since April 13, but until now its still on process. Why its really delayed like this?
Hi,
Question what if the father is not in present in Qatar?only the mother is here but with complete documents only the original passport of the father is missing, is there any problem applying the birth certificate of a newborn baby?
Hi Mona, For applying online original passport is not required. However, the parents’ QID should be still valid.

Hi Mona,
I am planning the same case as you and my husband is not a qatar resident.
Giving this covid situation I dont think he will get any visa and I wonder if I could register the baby only with a copy of his passport.
Please let me know if you have further info about your query
I will also investigate the procedures ans can share the info I might get with you if you have any contact mail.
Good luck
