The Doha Metro is a modern, fully automated rail network that runs underground and above ground across the city. It offers a fast, convenient and reliable way to travel around Qatar’s capital.
Doha Metro passenger services began in May 2019. The network connects important locations across Doha, including Hamad International Airport, the Corniche, Qatar National Museum, Katara Cultural Village, Education City and several popular shopping malls.

Metro Travel Cards Accepted on Metrolink
Doha Metro and Lusail Tram Travel Cards are accepted on Metrolink services.
Passengers may tap their Standard or Gold Club Travel Card on the reader when boarding and leaving the bus. Children aged five and above must also tap their Travel Card when using Metrolink.
The Metrolink QR Code available through the Karwa Journey Planner application and Karwa Smartcards are also accepted.
365-Day Metropass
Qatar Rail introduced a 365-day metropass in 2025. It costs QR990 and provides unlimited journeys across the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks for 365 days from its first use.
Doha Metro Timings (2026)
The Doha Metro operates every day.

These are the general network operating hours. The time of the last train can differ by station and direction.
Passengers travelling late at night should check the Qatar Rail journey planner or mobile application for the last available train from their station.
Operating hours may also be extended or changed temporarily during major events and public holidays.
Doha Metro Map
The Doha Metro network consists of three lines:
- Red Line
- Green Line
- Gold Line
The Red, Green and Gold lines meet at Msheireb Station. The Red and Green lines also connect at Al Bidda Station.

Types of Travel Cards
Passengers need a Travel Card to use the Doha Metro. Paper tickets are no longer available.
There are two main types of rechargeable Travel Cards.
Standard Cards
The Standard Travel Card can be used in Standard Class and Family Class.
The card costs QR10 and must be topped up with sufficient travel credit before use.
A single journey costs QR2, while the maximum daily charge is QR6.
Gold Club Cards
The Gold Club Travel Card allows passengers to travel in Gold Club, which offers more spacious and comfortable seating.
The card costs QR100 and must be topped up with sufficient travel credit.
A single Gold Club journey costs QR10, while the maximum daily charge is QR30.

These cards are valid on both the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram. Lusail Tram does not have a separate Gold Club section. Gold Club Travel Cards can be used to travel in the regular section of the tram.
Unlimited Travel with Metro Passes
Doha Metro and Lusail Tram passengers can purchase metropasses that provide unlimited journeys during a specified period.
The available passes include:

Each pass becomes valid when it is first used at a Metro gate or tram validator.
Metropasses can be used for unlimited journeys on the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram during their validity period.
Where To Buy Doha Metro Travel Cards
Standard Travel Cards can be purchased from Travel Card vending machines at all Doha Metro stations and from licensed retailers.
Gold Club Travel Cards can be purchased from Gold Club offices at Metro stations.
Passengers should purchase Travel Cards only from Qatar Rail or an authorised retailer.
How To Top Up Doha Metro Travel Cards
Standard and Gold Club Travel Cards can be recharged using:
- Travel Card vending machines at Metro stations
- The Qatar Rail website
- The Qatar Rail mobile application
Gold Club Travel Cards can also be recharged at Gold Club offices inside Metro stations.
A rechargeable Travel Card is valid for five years and can be used repeatedly during that period.
Journey Rates
A single journey costs:
- QR2 with a Standard Travel Card
- QR10 with a Gold Club Travel Card
The journey price remains the same regardless of the distance travelled or the number of Metro lines used.
Passengers must tap their Travel Card when entering and exiting the Metro network.
You do not need to tap out and tap in again when changing trains at an interchange station.
Maximum Charge Per Day
If you make several journeys in one day, a maximum daily charge applies.
The maximum daily charge is:
- QR6 for a Standard Travel Card
- QR30 for a Gold Club Travel Card
Once the daily limit has been reached, additional eligible journeys made on the same day will not result in additional journey charges.
A maximum journey time of 90 minutes applies while travelling through the Metro network. Additional charges may apply if a passenger remains inside the network for longer than the permitted journey time.
Doha Metro Frequency
Doha Metro trains normally operate at intervals of approximately three minutes.
The frequency can vary depending on the time, passenger demand, service conditions and special events.
Travelling With Children
Children aged five and above need a Travel Card to travel on the Doha Metro.
Children aged four and below can travel without a Travel Card but must be accompanied by a fare-paying adult.
Adult and child fares are the same in each class.
Children must be at least nine years old to travel alone on the network. Children under nine must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or above.
Free Shuttle Services
Qatar Rail passengers can use Metrolink and Metroexpress services to travel between selected areas and Metro stations.
MetroLink
Metrolink Feeder Bus Service
Metrolink is a free feeder bus network that provides first- and last-mile connections to Doha Metro stations. Routes generally serve areas located within approximately two to five kilometres of selected stations.
The service is free of charge.
Passengers can use:
- A Doha Metro or Lusail Tram Travel Card
- A Karwa Smartcard
- A Metrolink QR Code from the Karwa Journey Planner application
Passengers must tap or scan when boarding and leaving the bus.
How to Use the Metrolink QR Code
- Open the Karwa Journey Planner application.
- Register or sign in.
- Open “Cards & Favourites” from the menu.
- Select “Metrolink QR Ticket – Free.”
- Display the QR code.
- Scan the code when boarding and leaving the bus.
Metrolink Operating Hours
Metrolink generally operates during the same hours as the Doha Metro:

Metroexpress is a complimentary ride-sharing feeder service connecting designated areas with selected Doha Metro and Lusail Tram stations.
The service uses branded shared vehicles and must be booked through the Karwa Taxi application.
To request a ride:
- Download and open the Karwa Taxi application.
- Select the Metroexpress option.
- Enter the required pickup or drop-off information.
- Select the number of passengers.
- Request the ride.
Metroexpress is available only to registered Metro or tram passengers and must be used together with a Doha Metro or Lusail Tram journey.
The stations and service zones covered by Metroexpress may change. Passengers should check the Karwa Taxi application for current coverage and availability.
Doha Metro Park & Ride Facility
The Park and Ride scheme allows passengers to park near selected Doha Metro stations and continue their journey by Metro.
Park and Ride facilities are available at selected stations, including:
- Al Wakra
- Al Qassar
- Lusail
- Education City
Availability may be affected by major events, maintenance work or temporary traffic arrangements. Passengers should follow signs and official Qatar Rail announcements.
How to Plan A Trip With Doha Metro
Passengers can plan their journey using the “Plan My Journey” feature on the Qatar Rail website.
The Qatar Rail mobile application is also available through the App Store or Google Play.
The journey planner can help passengers check:
- Metro routes
- Interchange stations
- Estimated journey times
- First and last trains
- Metrolink routes
- Station facilities
Free Wi-Fi Connectivity
Qatar Rail provides public Wi-Fi across Doha Metro trains and stations.
Passengers can use limited-bandwidth Wi-Fi free for the first 30 minutes each day.
One-time registration is required. Passengers may be asked to sign in using a mobile number and one-time password or another available authentication method.
Paid daily, weekly or monthly plans may be available for passengers who require longer or higher-speed internet access.
About Doha Metro Fleet
The Doha Metro fleet consists of 110 trains. Each standard train consists of three cars that are regularly inspected, monitored and maintained.
During major events or periods of high passenger demand, Qatar Rail may operate six-car trains on selected services.
The three-car trains contain separate sections for:
- Standard Class
- Family Class
- Gold Club
Doha Metro trains are fully automated and operate without drivers.
Doha Metro Network
The Doha Metro network consists of three lines—Red, Green and Gold—and has 37 stations, including interchange stations.
Doha Metro Red Line
The Red Line runs approximately 40 kilometres from Al Wakra in the south to Lusail in the north.
A branch of the Red Line connects Hamad International Airport Terminal 1 with the city centre and the rest of the Metro network.
The Red Line has 18 active stations. Important stations include:
- Hamad International Airport Terminal 1
- Msheireb
- Al Bidda
- Corniche
- West Bay–Qatar Energy
- Katara
- Legtaifiya
- Qatar University
- Lusail
Msheireb provides connections to the Green and Gold lines, while Al Bidda provides a connection to the Green Line.
Legtaifiya connects the Doha Metro with the Lusail Tram.
Doha Metro Green Line
The Green Line runs from Al Mansoura in the east to Al Riffa–Mall of Qatar in the west.
It has 11 stations, including:

Doha Metro Gold Line
The Gold Line runs from Ras Bu Aboud in the east to Al Aziziyah in the west.

Many QP employee start using metro service. However, start time 6 am is a little bit late as working time start from 6:30 am.
Hopefully timing will be adjusted to at least start from 5:30.

Hi Syed, The timings during 2021 Ramadan are 6 AM to 11 PM (Sunday to Thursday). Friday and Saturday are closed due to COVID restrictions.
