Welcoming a newborn into your family is an exciting and joyful moment. As a resident of Qatar, it’s essential to ensure that your little one has all the necessary documents, including a valid Residence Permit (Qatar ID card). This identification card is crucial for access to healthcare, education, and other essential services.

In this article, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of applying for a Residence Permit (RP) and get Qatar ID for a baby born in Qatar. We will also explain the various options, documents required and cost of visa.

Newborn Baby Visa Rules In Qatar 2024

Since 2023. there is no option to upload the parent’s bank statement or education certificate. These are now verified through WPS and labour contract.

Before applying for a baby’s RP, make sure the sponsor’s (mother or father) salary is transferred through the employer’s Wage Protection System (WPS). Also, ensure that the labor contract has been linked to the Metrash system. You can confirm this by speaking with your employer’s PRO.

How To Get A Qatar ID For A Baby Born in Qatar

If the baby is born in Qatar, below are the steps you need to follow:

  • Step 1: Apply for baby’s birth certificate
  • Step 2: Apply for baby’s passport
  • Step 3: Apply for baby’s Qatar ID (online on Metrash or offline at MOI Service Center)

Let’s discuss these steps in detail:

Step 1: Apply For Baby’s Birth Certificate

As a parent, it is your duty to promptly register your baby’s birth and obtain the birth certificate. Note that failing to report a birth on time can result in legal penalties.

If the child is born in Qatar, you can apply for a birth certificate issued by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). Nowadays, this is an easy online process that you can complete on the MOPH portal.

Here is our detailed step-by-step guide on how to apply for a birth certificate in Qatar.

Step 2: Apply For Baby’s Passport

The next step is registering the birth at your country’s Embassy in Qatar and applying for a passport. For example, if you are an Indian national, you should apply for your baby’s Indian passport.

How to apply passport for newborn in Qatar

To apply passport for newborn in Qatar, you should complete the required application form (online or offline) and submit the application form to your Embassy. Documents required include parents’ passports, Qatar IDs, the baby’s birth certificate, and photos.

There may be two application forms: one for registering birth and one for applying for a passport. As the procedure will vary depending on each country, please confirm the requirements with your local embassy.

Step 3: Apply For Baby’s Qatar ID

You can apply for the baby’s Qatar ID using the Metrash mobile app or directly at a Ministry of Interior Service Center.

Who Will Sponsor The Baby?

Before applying for a QID, you need to determine who will be the sponsor for the baby.

  • If the baby’s mother is under the father’s sponsorship (family visa), the father will be the sponsor for the baby.
  • If both the mother and father are working under employment visas, then the mother has to be the baby’s sponsor.

Salary Requirements for Father to Sponsor

If the father is eligible to sponsor his spouse with a salary above QR 10,000, he is automatically eligible to sponsor his children as well.

Salary Requirements for Mother to Sponsor

If the mother is working and the baby was born inside Qatar, the salary requirements are often relaxed. However, in this case, the mother will need an NOC from her sponsor and must upload the father’s salary certificate and bank statement.

Please see our detailed guide on how a mother can sponsor children in Qatar.

Now let’s examine the different options to apply for the baby’s QID (online and offline).

Option 1: Applying Under Father’s Sponsorship

How To Apply QID For Newborn in Metrash (Father’s Sponsorship)

Applying QID for new born baby on Metrash is a two step-process:
(a) First you have to apply for baby’s Residence Visa.
(b) Once the visa is approved, you have to apply for Qatar ID.

(a) To apply for the baby’s Residence Permit on Metrash, follow these steps:

  1. Log into Metrash and click on the ‘Visa’ icon.
  2. Click on the “Issue Visa” icon.
  3. Click on the “Family Visit” icon.
Qatar ID For A Baby Born In Qatar Via Metrash
  1. Select “Family Resident Application.”
  2. Click on “New Application” (bottom right of the screen).
  3. Fill in the form with the child’s details and click “Validate.”

  2. Baby’s passport.
  3. Baby’s birth certificate.
  4. Attested Marriage Certificate [Attested side should be uploaded to “Marriage Certificate (Others)”].
  • Bank statement and education certificate are not required nowadays as they are verified through WPS and labor contract.

After you submit the application, it may take several days before the application is reviewed and approved. Once approved, you can pay the fee and apply for Qatar ID through Metrash or through any MOI Service Center.

(b) To apply for baby’s Qatar ID through Metrash, go to “Residency” section on Metrash home page, and select “Issue Residence Permit”.

Here you should upload the baby’s photo with blue background. You can write baby’s name in a paper and upload that as signature. Alternatively you can take baby’s thumb impression and upload.

How Father Can Apply Through MOI Service Center

For a father to apply for the baby’s Qatar ID directly (offline mode), get the application form filled out (in Arabic) from a typing center. The father has to visit any MOI Service Center and submit the following documents:

  1. Filled application form (Arabic).
  2. Husband and wife’s QID and passport copies.
  3. Attested Marriage Certificate.
  4. Letter from the husband’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
  5. Baby’s birth certificate – original and copy (attestation not required as the baby is born inside Qatar).
  6. Baby’s passport – original and copy.
  7. Baby’s passport-size photo with a blue background.

You can also carry the baby’s vaccination card (received from the hospital), which may not be required in most cases.

Option 2: Applying Under Mother’s Sponsorship

If the baby’s mother is under an employment visa, she will be the baby’s sponsor. In such a case, the application can be submitted via the mother’s Metrash app.

How To Apply QID For Newborn in Metrash (Mother’s Sponsorship)

As explained earlier, this is a two-step process on Metrash:
(a) First you have to apply for baby’s Residence Visa.
(b) Once the visa is approved, you have to apply for Qatar ID.

(a) To apply for the baby’s Residence Permit on Metrash, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the mother’s Metrash and click on the ‘Visa’ icon.
  2. Click on the “Issue Visa” icon.
  3. Click on the “Family Visit” icon.
  4. Select “Family Resident Application.”
  5. Click on “New Application” (bottom right of the screen).
  6. Fill in the form with the child’s details and click “Validate.”
  7. Select “I agree on the validity of data” and click “Next.”
  8. Upload the required documents and confirm your submission.

Documents Required When Applying on Mother’s Metrash

  1. Baby’s passport copy.
  2. Baby’s birth certificate.
  3. NOC from the wife’s sponsor (this must be uploaded to “Other Documents”).
  4. Letter from the husband’s employer with profession and salary (in Arabic).
  5. Husband’s bank statement with 3 months’ salary credit.
  6. Attested Marriage Certificate [Attested side should be uploaded to “Marriage Certificate (Others)”].

How Mother Can Apply Through MOI Service Center

For a mother to apply for the baby’s Qatar ID directly (offline mode), get the application form filled out (in Arabic) from a typing center. The mother has to visit any MOI Service Center and submit the following documents:

  1. Filled application form (Arabic).
  2. Husband and wife’s QID and passport copies.
  3. Attested Marriage Certificate.
  4. Baby’s birth certificate – original and copy (attestation not required as the baby is born inside Qatar).
  5. Baby’s passport – original and copy.
  6. Baby’s passport-size photo with a blue background.
  7. Letter from the wife’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
  8. Letter from the husband’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
  9. Husband’s bank statement with 3 months’ salary credit.
  10. NOC letter from the husband (in Arabic); you can get this typed from a typing center.

You can also carry the baby’s vaccination card (received from the hospital), which may not be required in most cases.

Which Option Is Easier?

Applying directly at an MOI Service Center is the easier option as you can get the Qatar ID printed during the same visit. However, sometimes MOI officials may not accept your application and may ask you to apply on Metrash.

In such cases, you have to apply for RP approval first and then the Qatar ID card later.

When applying for a Qatar ID through Metrash, you will also be required to upload a signature. In this column, either you can upload the baby’s fingerprint or write the baby’s name yourself and upload.

Similarly you can write baby’s name (as signature) on the application form if applying directly at MOI Service Center.

Visa Fee For Newborn Baby

The visa fee is QR 200, and the Qatar ID fee is QR 500 for one year. The payment can only be made through a bank card (debit or credit). You can apply Qatar ID for up to 3 years at once, which will give you 20% discount.

If you are applying for a Qatar ID through Metrash and opting for Q-Post delivery, you will have to pay QR 20 more.

Time Limit And Penalty For Not Applying Baby’s QID

The time limit for applying RP (QID) for a baby born inside Qatar is 60 days (two months). If you do not apply for a QID within the first 60 days, you will be charged a penalty of QR 10 per day.

The same time limit and penalty applies to a baby born outside Qatar and entering on newborn visa. In this case the 60 days will be counted from the date of entry to Qatar.

If the baby is born outside Qatar, please read this guide for more details.

What Is Newborn Visa (Inside Country)?

There is an option in Metrash app labelled as “Newborn visa (Inside Country)”. Often users get confused that this is the option to apply visa for their newborn baby. However this is a service that allows a resident whose wife is in Qatar on a family visitor visa, to issue his newborn child a visa similar to the baby’s mother visa (visitor visa).

Here is how you can apply for this if your wife delivers a baby in Qatar while on a family visitor visa:

  1. Select “Visa” on Metrash home page.
  2. Select “Issue Visa”.
  3. Select “Newborn visa (Inside Country)”.
Newborn Visa (Inside Country) On Metrash
  1. Select “Apply for visa” and fill the required information.
  2. To follow-up choose “Application Inquiry and Payment”.
  3. Enter the mother’s visa number to check the status of the application.
  4. If the status is “Approved” then you can pay the fees with your credit or debit card.

According to Hukoomi website, this service has a fee of QR 800.

If your wife is a Qatar resident with QID, you do not have to apply through this option.

By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can navigate the process smoothly and ensure that your baby is recognized as a resident of Qatar from day one. Congratulations on your new addition to the family, and we wish you and your baby all the best in your life in Qatar!

  1. hello, my baby was born here in Qatar 5 months ago and now am trying to apply for Qatar ID for my baby, my salary is good but my husband’s ID has been expired 7 months ago he is looking for new job!
is there any chance of getting the baby’s Id if i have all the necessary documents apart from the father’s valid ID ????

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Namwanje, It will depend on your salary and profession. You could face a fine for delay in applying the baby’s QID (you are supposed to apply within 2 months of birth).

  2. Hai DG,
Baby born here in Qatar, We are applying through Mother sponsor, We have all documents except Husband Salary Certificate can we apply. Kindly assist.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Pranav, If the mother’s salary is good enough you can apply. If the mother’s salary is low then you would need the father’s Salary Certificate also so that they can confirm the family income.

  3. Supposed we will send our kids to our home country, do we still need them to have QID? Will birth cert, Passport, Visa will be enough? Baby is born here and there’s a plan we bring him to our home country when he’s 4-5 months old

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Tugs, As per the law, if the baby is born in Qatar you should apply for the baby’s QID before the baby turns 2 months. Or else there will be a penalty.

  4. I’m Fathima And Now I’m Live in Qatar With family resident But My Son 7 Age Still Not Get Id And Resident Permit My Husband Salary 5000 but My Salary Not Enough To apply Son Visa How Can Apply Son Visa?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Nahid, If mother is on Family Residence Visa, you can directly apply Qatar ID for baby at MOI Service Center. If mother is on visit visa, you should apply a visa for baby. In this case a visit visa is issued.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Mohammed, It is better to get an NOC. Sometimes they would ask for that even if baby is born inside Qatar.

  5. Hi Doha Guides,
I applied on metrash2 on 12th Dec 2023, my baby was born on 14th Nov in Wakra hospital.
I check regularly the status. it was under process for 1 week, then under review for 4-5 days, then it is under process until now. i went to the Duhail immigration on 10th Jan 2024. the captain said wait for the sms, the visa is already approved. But until now it is under process. What should i do? its been 40+ days since i applied.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Aamir, Unfortunately, it is normal to have such delays when applying online. If the baby is born in Qatar we always recommend applying directly at MOI Service Center. In your case, it has been already 2 weeks since you visited Duhail. Perhaps you can try to follow up next week. There is no other option to follow-up.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Safa, If you and your husband have valid QIDs, you can apply for the baby’s QID. Note that since you have already crossed the maximum period of 2 months before applying QID, there may be a penalty of QR 10 per day (after 60 days of birth). If your QID is cancelled, you cannot apply.

  7. Hi,
Have already gotten the RP for my baby but applying for the QID using the residency is not working on my metrash2. Don’t no which one to use. Individual or company

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Lois, You should choose “individual”. If the option is not working visit any MOI Service Center with a photo and other documents.

        1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Jenni, If both husband and wife are working in Qatar, they would consider the combined salary. Especially if the baby is born in Qatar, the salary requirement is often relaxed. You can try applying with what you have now.

  10. Hi,

I am looking to apply QID for my newborn baby born in Qatar. As per the information I received from my company’s immigration team, if the baby is born in Qatar, then the QID can be directly applied from Residency -> Issue RP with birth certificate option in Metrash and no need of Visa. However when I tried in Metrash, this option says “This function is temporarily out of service…Please try later”. As per this link, it seems it’s a two step process and applying for baby’s Residence Visa first is required. It’s a bit confusing and can you please confirm if applying for the Residence Visa first is required or can we directly apply for the RP if we have got Baby’s birth certificate and passport?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Sujith, Your Immigration Team is right, but currently Metrash is not allowing that. As you can see, the two-step process is time-consuming. Since the baby is born in Qatar, the best option is to visit any MOI Service Center with all documents (birth certificate, passport, photo, parent’s QIDs) and get the new Qatar ID printed instantly.

  11. my baby is born here in Qatar, I will not process her RP since she will be staying in Phil. she will be 2 month old in Dec 4, unfortunately our flight will only be on Dec 23 as we are still waiting for her passport. do I need to pay for overstay penalty and if yes where can check the payment details?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Carmelyn, You may be required to pay an overstay fine at the airport during departure. It is better to check this in advance and know the amount and process. Please contact the Qatar Government Helpline at +974-44069999 or [email protected].

  12. I apply newborn baby inside qatar visa through metrash yesterday., but I don’t found marriage certificate option during submission.today I received document missing massege. they don’t mension what type of document are missing, only showing “other document”
    what to do?

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Uzma, If mother is under father’s sponsorship and baby is born in Qatar, marriage certificate is not needed. If mother is under work visa, you should upload sponsor’s NOC under “Other Document”.

  13. I applied for my newborn baby’s Visa through Metrash, I submitted it last October 23, 2023 with the status “under process”. Until now, the status is still “under process” and it’s almost 3 weeks now. What can we do with this?

    1. Hi Rod, If the baby was born in Qatar, visit any MOI Service Center with all documents. You can tell them you applied 3 weeks back.

  14. Hi I gave birth here in Qatar. Me and my Husband have the same employer here in Qatar, we still need the Salary cert and Bank statement?? Our problem is we didnt receive Salary for the past 2months. There will be problem?? Thank you

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Ann, If salary transfer is through WPS, it won’t be needed. Usually rules are relaxed for children born in Qatar.

      1. Hi Khan, Medical test is not required for children below 15 years. If the parents have Qatar ID you can directly apply for baby’s Qatar ID with passport and birth certificate.

  15. HI! I’m a mother sponsoring our child. My husband’s bank statement consists of 2 papers. When I tried uploading 2 images, it won’t push thru. I tried making it a long image (where both pages were saved as one) but it wasn’t clear. So I only uploaded the first page of his bank statement. Will that matter? Also, I uploaded our marriage certificate in the “other” section instead of the letter. Will it be a problem in the future?

Thank you so much for the info! It was very helpful..

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi April, Regarding the bank statement, the correct method is to request the bank to issue a statement that shows only salary credits (this will fit in one page). Since you have already submitted the application, don’t worry now. Just wait and see if you are getting any missing document notification. If you get missing documents message, you can resubmit again.

  16. “To apply for a QID for a newborn baby (inside Qatar) through Metrash (under mother sponsorship)”
I have tried to apply QID for my newborn baby inside Qatar in Metrash, same step I have followed as you mentioned in the article but in my metrash, I’m receiving an error not “No Record Found”, could you please guide me for the same?

    Thanks.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Razeena, New born (inside Qatar) is for those who deliver baby while on Family Visit Visa. If you are under RP you will see a “No Record Found” error.
If you are a resident (under company sponsorship) you should select “Visa” – “Issue Visa” – “Family Visit” – “Family Resident Visa” – “New Application”.

  17. I want to apply newborn baby born inside . am mother sponsoring the baby. I am on work visa.my husband was terminated from his job last month, but this month he join new company. can i attach previous salary Statment? is there any chance to rejection?

  18. i have applied for newborn baby rp born outside doha (two months old). currently she is on family visit. i am mother sponsoring the baby. application status changed from under process to under review. and again back to under process. is there any chance of rejection? i have uploaded all docs and m meeting all requirements. how long does it take for approval?

        1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Raheem, By default father’s bank statement is also asked because they are considering combined family income. If your salary is decent enough that may be enough.

        2. Hi, my baby born inside qatar i am mother sponsoring baby my salary is 5k qr minimum how much salary ? this salary enough for making baby Qid

        3. Doha Guides Team

Hi Tahura, If the baby is born inside Qatar, salary criteria is usually relaxed. This may be enough.

        4. Hi , Mother sponsoring baby how many months salary statement required which center we need to visit to apply

        5. Doha Guides Team

Hi Raheem, Currently bank statement is not needed as they are verifying salary credit through WPS. If the baby is born in Qatar you can visit any MOI Service Center with all documents.
