This identification card is crucial for access to healthcare, education, and other essential services.

In this article, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of applying for a Residence Permit (RP) and get Qatar ID for a baby born in Qatar. We will also explain the various options, documents required and cost of visa.

Newborn Baby Visa Rules In Qatar 2024

Since 2023. there is no option to upload the parent’s bank statement or education certificate. These are now verified through WPS and labour contract.

Before applying for a baby’s RP, make sure the sponsor’s (mother or father) salary is transferred through the employer’s Wage Protection System (WPS). Also, ensure that the labor contract has been linked to the Metrash system. You can confirm this by speaking with your employer’s PRO.

How To Get A Qatar ID For A Baby Born in Qatar

If the baby is born in Qatar, below are the steps you need to follow:

  • Step 1: Apply for baby’s birth certificate
  • Step 2: Apply for baby’s passport
  • Step 3: Apply for baby’s Qatar ID (online on Metrash or offline at MOI Service Center)

Let’s discuss these steps in detail:

Step 1: Apply For Baby’s Birth Certificate

As a parent, it is your duty to promptly register your baby’s birth and obtain the birth certificate. Note that failing to report a birth on time can result in legal penalties.

If the child is born in Qatar, you can apply for a birth certificate issued by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). Nowadays, this is an easy online process that you can complete on the MOPH portal.

Here is our detailed step-by-step guide on how to apply for a birth certificate in Qatar.

Step 2: Apply For Baby’s Passport

The next step is registering the birth at your country’s Embassy in Qatar and applying for a passport. For example, if you are an Indian national, you should apply for your baby’s Indian passport.

How to apply passport for newborn in Qatar

To apply passport for newborn in Qatar, you should complete the required application form (online or offline) and submit the application form to your Embassy. Documents required include parents’ passports, Qatar IDs, the baby’s birth certificate, and photos.

There may be two application forms: one for registering birth and one for applying for a passport. As the procedure will vary depending on each country, please confirm the requirements with your local embassy.

Step 3: Apply For Baby’s Qatar ID

You can apply for the baby’s Qatar ID using the Metrash mobile app or directly at a Ministry of Interior Service Center.

Who Will Sponsor The Baby?

Before applying for a QID, you need to determine who will be the sponsor for the baby.

  • If the baby’s mother is under the father’s sponsorship (family visa), the father will be the sponsor for the baby.
  • If both the mother and father are working under employment visas, then the mother has to be the baby’s sponsor.

Salary Requirements for Father to Sponsor

If the father is eligible to sponsor his spouse with a salary above QR 10,000, he is automatically eligible to sponsor his children as well.

Salary Requirements for Mother to Sponsor

If the mother is working and the baby was born inside Qatar, the salary requirements are often relaxed. However, in this case, the mother will need an NOC from her sponsor and must upload the father’s salary certificate and bank statement.

Please see our detailed guide on how a mother can sponsor children in Qatar.

Now let’s examine the different options to apply for the baby’s QID (online and offline).

Option 1: Applying Under Father’s Sponsorship

  3. Attested Marriage Certificate.
  4. Letter from the husband’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).

You can also carry the baby’s vaccination card (received from the hospital), which may not be required in most cases.

Option 2: Applying Under Mother’s Sponsorship

If the baby’s mother is under an employment visa, she will be the baby’s sponsor. In such a case, the application can be submitted via the mother’s Metrash app.

How To Apply QID For Newborn in Metrash (Mother’s Sponsorship)

As explained earlier, this is a two-step process on Metrash:
(a) First you have to apply for baby’s Residence Visa.
(b) Once the visa is approved, you have to apply for Qatar ID.

(a) To apply for the baby’s Residence Permit on Metrash, follow these steps:

  2. Click on the “Issue Visa” icon.
  3. Click on the “Family Visit” icon.
  4. Select “Family Resident Application.”
  5. Click on “New Application” (bottom right of the screen).
  6. Fill in the form with the child’s details and click “Validate.”

How Mother Can Apply Through MOI Service Center

For a mother to apply for the baby’s Qatar ID directly (offline mode), get the application form filled out (in Arabic) from a typing center. The mother has to visit any MOI Service Center and submit the following documents:

  1. Filled application form (Arabic).
  2. Husband and wife’s QID and passport copies.
  3. Attested Marriage Certificate.
  4. Baby’s birth certificate – original and copy (attestation not required as the baby is born inside Qatar).
  5. Baby’s passport – original and copy.
  6. Baby’s passport-size photo with a blue background.
  7. Letter from the wife’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
  8. Letter from the husband’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
  9. Husband’s bank statement with 3 months’ salary credit.
  10. NOC letter from the husband (in Arabic); you can get this typed from a typing center.

You can also carry the baby’s vaccination card (received from the hospital), which may not be required in most cases.

Which Option Is Easier?

Applying directly at an MOI Service Center is the easier option as you can get the Qatar ID printed during the same visit. However, sometimes MOI officials may not accept your application and may ask you to apply on Metrash.

In such cases, you have to apply for RP approval first and then the Qatar ID card later.

When applying for a Qatar ID through Metrash, you will also be required to upload a signature. In this column, either you can upload the baby’s fingerprint or write the baby’s name yourself and upload.

Similarly you can write baby’s name (as signature) on the application form if applying directly at MOI Service Center.

Visa Fee For Newborn Baby

The visa fee is QR 200, and the Qatar ID fee is QR 500 for one year. The payment can only be made through a bank card (debit or credit). You can apply Qatar ID for up to 3 years at once, which will give you 20% discount.

If you are applying for a Qatar ID through Metrash and opting for Q-Post delivery, you will have to pay QR 20 more.

Time Limit And Penalty For Not Applying Baby’s QID

The time limit for applying RP (QID) for a baby born inside Qatar is 60 days (two months). If you do not apply for a QID within the first 60 days, you will be charged a penalty of QR 10 per day.

The same time limit and penalty applies to a baby born outside Qatar and entering on newborn visa. In this case the 60 days will be counted from the date of entry to Qatar.

If the baby is born outside Qatar, please read this guide for more details.

What Is Newborn Visa (Inside Country)?

There is an option in Metrash app labelled as “Newborn visa (Inside Country)”. Often users get confused that this is the option to apply visa for their newborn baby. However this is a service that allows a resident whose wife is in Qatar on a family visitor visa, to issue his newborn child a visa similar to the baby’s mother visa (visitor visa).

Here is how you can apply for this if your wife delivers a baby in Qatar while on a family visitor visa:

  1. Select “Visa” on Metrash home page.
  2. Select “Issue Visa”.
  3. Select “Newborn visa (Inside Country)”.
Newborn Visa (Inside Country) On Metrash
  1. Select “Apply for visa” and fill the required information.
  2. To follow-up choose “Application Inquiry and Payment”.
  3. Enter the mother’s visa number to check the status of the application.
  4. If the status is “Approved” then you can pay the fees with your credit or debit card.

According to Hukoomi website, this service has a fee of QR 800.

If your wife is a Qatar resident with QID, you do not have to apply through this option.

By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can navigate the process smoothly and ensure that your baby is recognized as a resident of Qatar from day one. Congratulations on your new addition to the family, and we wish you and your baby all the best in your life in Qatar!

Hi Benladin, For baby born in Qatar you can try visiting MOI directly. This is much faster and you can get QID same day. However sometimes security may not allow entry or they may ask you to apply on Metrash (depends on how busy they are).

  6. Hi DG Team,
I have to apply for Resident permit for my newborn in Qatar. I have received the Birth Certificate and Passport. I requested my office PRO for NOC with salary and profession but he has given me the application form in Arabic. I told him that it’s not the thing I want but he does not try to understand.
Can you please confirm whether NOC letter is mandatory for this application.

Hi Abhijit, If your wife is already under your sponsorship, you don’t need an NOC. The easiest option is to visit any MOI Service Center with all documents (passports, QIDs, birth certificate and baby’s photo). You will get the QID printed the same day.
