Newborn Baby Visa Rules In Qatar 2025
Since 2023, applicants can no longer upload the parents’ bank statements or education certificates. These details are now verified automatically through the Wage Protection System (WPS) and the labour contract.
Before applying for a baby’s RP, make sure the sponsor’s (mother or father) salary is transferred through the employer’s Wage Protection System (WPS). Also, ensure that the labor contract has been linked to the Metrash system. You can confirm this by speaking with your employer’s PRO.
How To Get A Qatar ID For A Baby Born in Qatar
If the baby is born in Qatar, below are the steps you need to follow:
- Step 1: Apply for baby’s birth certificate
- Step 2: Apply for baby’s passport
- Step 3: Apply for baby’s Qatar ID (offline at MOI Service Centre or online on Metrash)
Let’s discuss these steps in detail:
Step 1: Apply For Baby’s Birth Certificate
As a parent, it is your duty to promptly register your baby’s birth and obtain the birth certificate. Note that failing to report a birth on time can result in legal penalties.
If the child is born in Qatar, you can apply for a birth certificate issued by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). Nowadays, this is an easy online process that you can complete on the MOPH portal.
Here is our detailed step-by-step guide on how to apply for a birth certificate in Qatar.
Step 2: Apply For Baby’s Passport
The next step is registering the birth at your country’s Embassy in Qatar and applying for a passport. For example, if you are an Indian national, you should apply for your baby’s Indian passport.
How to apply passport for newborn in Qatar
To apply passport for newborn in Qatar, you should complete the required application form (online or offline) and submit the application form to your Embassy. Documents required include parents’ passports, Qatar IDs, the baby’s birth certificate, and photos.
There may be two application forms: one for registering birth and one for applying for a passport. As the procedure will vary depending on each country, please confirm the requirements with your local embassy.
Step 3: Apply For Baby’s Qatar ID
You can apply for the baby’s Qatar ID directly at a Ministry of Interior Service Centre or using the Metrash mobile app.
Who Will Sponsor The Baby?
Before applying for a QID, you need to determine who will be the sponsor for the baby.
- If the baby’s mother is under the father’s sponsorship (family visa), the father will be the sponsor for the baby.
- If both the mother and father are working under employment visas, then the mother has to be the baby’s sponsor.
Salary Requirements for Father to Sponsor
If the father is eligible to sponsor his spouse with a salary above QR 10,000, he is automatically eligible to sponsor his children as well.
Salary Requirements for Mother to Sponsor
If the mother is working (under emplyment visa) and the baby was born inside Qatar, the salary requirements are often relaxed. However, in this case, the mother will need an NOC from her sponsor and must upload the father’s salary certificate and bank statement.
Please see our detailed guide on how a mother can sponsor children in Qatar.
Now let’s examine the different options to apply for the baby’s QID (online and offline).
Option 1: Applying Under Father’s Sponsorship
How Father Can Apply Through MOI Service Centre
For a father to apply for the baby’s Qatar ID directly (offline mode), get the application form filled out (in Arabic) from a typing centre. The father has to visit any MOI Service Centre and submit the following documents:
- Baby’s birth certificate – original (copy may be asked in some cases). Attestation is not required as the baby is born inside Qatar.
- Baby’s passport – original (copy may be asked in some cases).
- Baby’s passport-size photo with a blue background.
Additional Documents
The following documents are not required in most cases. However they are still listed on some government websites:
- Filled application form (Arabic).
- Husband and wife’s QID and passport copies.
- Attested Marriage Certificate.
- Letter from the husband’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
You can also carry the baby’s vaccination card (received from the hospital), which may not be required in most cases.
In most cases, you will receive the printed QID during the same visit.
Option 2: Applying Under Mother’s Sponsorship
How Mother Can Apply Through MOI Service Centre
If the father and mother are employed (under employment visas) the mother will apply as the sponsor. In such cases, extra documents may be required. The mother must visit the MOI Service Centre in person with these documents:
- Baby’s birth certificate – original (copy may be asked in some cases). Attestation is not required as the baby is born inside Qatar.
- Baby’s passport – original (copy may be asked in some cases).
- Baby’s passport-size photo with a blue background.
- Husband and wife’s QID and passport.
- Attested Marriage Certificate.
- Letter from the wife’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
Additional Documents
The following documents are mentioned on official government websites, although not all of them may be necessary.
- Filled application form (Arabic).
- Letter from the husband’s employer (in Arabic, with salary and profession).
- Husband’s bank statement with 3 months’ salary credit.
- NOC letter from the husband (in Arabic); you can get this typed from a typing centre.
You can also carry the baby’s vaccination card (received from the hospital), which may not be required in most cases.
Applying on Metrash
It is also possible to apply for QID on the Metrash mobile app. However, applying directly at an MOI Service Centre is the easier option as you can get the Qatar ID printed during the same visit.
Please note that sometimes MOI officials may not accept your application and may ask you to apply on Metrash. In such cases, you have to apply for RP approval first and then the Qatar ID card later.
When applying for a Qatar ID through Metrash, you will also be required to upload a signature. In this column, either you can upload the baby’s fingerprint or write the baby’s name yourself and upload. Similarly you can write baby’s name (as signature) on the application form if applying directly at MOI Service Centre.
Visa Fee For Newborn Baby
The visa fee is QR 200, and the Qatar ID fee is QR 500 for one year. The payment can only be made through a bank card (debit or credit). You can apply Qatar ID for up to 3 years at once, which will give you 20% discount.
If you are applying for a Qatar ID through Metrash and opting for Q-Post delivery, you will have to pay QR 20 more.
Time Limit And Penalty For Not Applying Baby’s QID
The time limit for applying RP (QID) for a baby born inside Qatar is 60 days (two months). If you do not apply for a QID within the first 60 days, you will be charged a penalty of QR 10 per day.
The same time limit and penalty applies to a baby born outside Qatar and entering on newborn visa. In this case the 60 days will be counted from the date of entry to Qatar.
If the baby is born outside Qatar, please read this guide for more details.
What Is Newborn Visa (Inside Country)?
There is an option in Metrash app labelled as “Newborn visa (Inside Country)”. Often users get confused that this is the option to apply visa for their newborn baby. However this is a service that allows a resident whose wife is in Qatar on a family visitor visa, to issue his newborn child a visa similar to the baby’s mother visa (visitor visa).
Here is how you can apply for this if your wife delivers a baby in Qatar while on a family visitor visa:
- Select “Visa” on Metrash home page.
- Select “Issue Visa”.
- Select “Newborn visa (Inside Country)”.
- Select “Apply for visa” and fill the required information.
- To follow-up choose “Application Inquiry and Payment”.
- Enter the mother’s visa number to check the status of the application.
- If the status is “Approved” then you can pay the fees with your credit or debit card.
According to Hukoomi website, this service has a fee of QR 800.
If your wife is a Qatar resident with QID, you do not have to apply through this option.
By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can navigate the process smoothly and ensure that your baby is recognized as a resident of Qatar from day one. Congratulations on your new addition to the family, and we wish you and your baby all the best in your life in Qatar!

My baby was born outside Qatar, and I thought sharing my experience here may help someone in a similar situation. First of all, I would like to thank Doha Guides for creating such a useful platform for residents to be ready with the requirements of any official activity.
When I recently brought my baby to Qatar, she was just 3 months old. Since both my wife and I already have QIDs, the airport issued my baby a 2-month visa on arrival. Once I got back home, I checked the Metrash app, and in the visa section, I noticed an option called Issue Residence Permit. To my surprise, my baby’s name, passport number, and details were already showing there. The app asked for a payment of 520 QAR, which I completed right away.
As it was the weekend, the process was just initiated, and now I am waiting for the QID to be issued, printed, and delivered to my home, Inshallah.
For anyone going through the same process, the required documents are:
Attested birth certificate from the home country
Original passport of the baby
Valid QID and passports of both father and mother
I hope this helps other parents who are bringing their newborns to Qatar
Thanks Ali, This is super helpful. We have added your experience to this article: https://www.dohaguides.com/qatar-visa-on-arrival-for-baby/
