During the COVID-19 pandemic, most countries implemented special entry and exit restrictions. Qatar, being a highly visited destination, had imposed various measures from time to time to control the spread of the pandemic.

As the world cautiously emerges from the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, nations are adapting their travel policies to align with evolving circumstances. The travel policy by Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) is reviewed from time to time, depending on the domestic and international situation.

This article explains everything about Qatar Travel and Quarantine rules in place now, including entry restrictions and eligibility for home quarantine.

Qatar Travel And Quarantine Updates

On April 1, 2023, Qatar took a decisive step by lifting the last remaining COVID-19 travel restriction. This development signifies a promising shift in the global landscape, reflecting improved COVID-19 statuses in many parts of the world.

Travellers entering Qatar are no longer subject to COVID-19-related restrictions or requirements, offering a sense of relief and freedom to those eager to explore this vibrant destination.

Protect Yourself

The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar emphasizes the importance of maintaining vigilance in safeguarding health amidst the changing circumstances. While there are no longer specific travel restrictions, travellers are encouraged to adhere to standard infection prevention measures.

This includes staying updated on the latest COVID-19 developments, obtaining the updated COVID-19 booster vaccine, and monitoring both local and international updates on COVID-19 situations and requirements in their destination countries.

Current Safety Requirements

One notable aspect of Qatar’s policy is the requirement for everyone to wear a face mask when inside health facilities. This measure underscores the nation’s commitment to prioritizing public health and safety, even as travel restrictions ease. Visitors are expected to respect this requirement and adhere to it diligently during their stay in Qatar.

For those planning a trip to Qatar, the updated travel and return policy offers a welcome reassurance. With restrictions lifted and a renewed focus on preventative measures, travellers can look forward to experiencing the beauty and hospitality of Qatar without the shadow of COVID-19 looming over their journey.

Travellers must remain informed about any changes to Qatar’s Travel and Return Policy through official sources and websites before embarking on their journey. Staying abreast of the latest guidelines ensures a smooth travel experience and helps mitigate any potential disruptions.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Erika, 14 days is for shared (Mekainese) quarantine. In that case, the test will be at the end of quarantine and you cannot leave early.

Hi Aji, you can travel as soon as you are vaccinated. Ministry has confirmed that there is no restriction. However, you would not be exempt from quarantine if you return to Qatar within 14 days of vaccination. So if you travel out of Qatar immediately after vaccination make sure to stay in your home country for 14 days.

      1. Can the person received covishield vaccine in India should go for hotel quarantine? 14 days finished.

        1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Esther, Currently MOPH has approved Pfizer and Moderna vaccines only. There is no clarification if Covishield will be accepted for an exception. We will update you if there is any further announcement.

Hi Zayan, Children travelling alone were earlier exempted from hotel quarantine, but now all exemptions have been lifted. It is better that you check directly with Discover Qatar at +974-44237999.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Muthuraman, Until now Qatar is only giving exceptions to travellers who vaccinated from Qatar. Those vaccinated from other countries are not eligible for an exception from the hotel quarantine. Maybe this would change in the future.

  6. I have no symptoms and did MY PCR since I resigned from company and about to leave Qatar .PCR did on 1st March and it was positive 20% . So I quarantine at home. I in my 8th Day of corontine . Can someone please tell me when should I do the retest and when will my corontine period ends since I need to travel back home.different people says different things (even in government number 16000,109).my Ehteraz app was green Untill 6th day and now it’s having a question mark . Raised a ticket yesterday morning but no update yet either.

  7. I did my PCR on 1st March and got positive result (20% positive ) and I didn’t had any symptoms. I suppose to travel back home on 3rd since my result is positive I stayed home quarantine. Untill yesterday My Ehteraz app shows me green and yesterday it became Red (on my 6th day of corontine). I suppose to Do a PCR on my 6th or 7th Day right? But when I call 16000 they said I can’t go and do a PCR Untill Ehteraz becomes Yellow or Green. They asked me to 109 and I asked them too. Different people are telling different things. I would like to know when will I become Yellow or Green from the day it became Red so I can go and do my next PCR ?? Since I need to travel back home after I am Negative . No correct information from anyone . Please guide me if anyone has a answer.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Sam, Call 109 as it is the official helpline number for Ehteraaz. Uninstalling the app works for some people. Also, make sure you don’t have any VPN app on your mobile phone.

  8. Please let me know,. I have booked my return flight next week from India. I had 2 Doses of Covid vaccination done in Qatar. So I think Hotel booking is not required for my journey. I am not getting a clear answer from travel agents. Can you help in this.
    Thanks

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Ismail, If you have taken two doses of vaccine from Qatar before 14 days, hotel booking is not needed. You can show the vaccination card while boarding in India airport. Please note currently this will be valid only for 3 months after vaccination.

  9. Khawaja Hassan Haroon

Are children above 5 years and below 16 yrs travelling with vaccinated parents exempt from hotel quarantine. ( and only required home quarantine?)

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Khwaja, There is no official announcement on that yet. You can call 16000 to check about this.

  10. If received 2 dose vaccination and cross 14 days exceptional people need to book hotel or not? Can we start from home country to Qatar without hotel booking? what is the procedure to travel? When ask airline including Qatar airways don’t have the answer when enquired. Please clarify.

    1. Hi Shanmuga, According to MoPH, if you have received 2 doses of vaccination from Qatar (not from any other country) you are exempt from quarantine. The quarantine exemption is valid for a period of three months, starting 14 days after the second dose.

  11. Rules of Hotel booking from discover Qatar are unjustified. The person who book a hotel with spelling mistake or date mistake is not able to rectify and a poor labour class passenger lost his money. He has to book a new hotel for a little mistake.Discover Qatar is not responding in that case.
I think this is way of looting to poor people.A person who paid money must be provided service. Some charges or penalties should be imposed on mistake. Its a great cruelty to charge full amount.
Kindly revise the hotel booking policy..Best Regards

  15. We are a resident permit holder in Qatar and I have a nine year old son who is a PWD (person with disability) here in the Philippines but he doesn’t have a record yet of his disability in Qatar. How can we get exemption from the hotel quarantine? Even if we indicate in the entry permit application that he is a PWD, it still gives us “hotel quarantine.”

  17. i plan to travel to India on 29 jan after my vaccination for COVID(both doses) do i still require to be quarantine ???

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Murtuza, Until now there is no announcement from India government regarding quarantine requirement for vaccinated persons.

    1. Doha Guides Team

Hi Harish, Yes the quarantine requirements mentioned above are in still in place. You need 7 days hotel quarantine unless you qualify for home quarantine (conditions explained above).

  18. While return to Qatar from India

I have children’s below 8 years And 11 years so I need to stay home quarantine or hotel quarantine.
    For my information only .

    1. Hi Nilesh, As per the current information available on the MOPH website, home quarantine is allowed for parents of children under 5 years only. Since your children are above 5 years, you may be required to do hotel quarantine. However, we suggest you call hotline number 16000 and check directly before booking the hotel.
