Health care services in Qatar are available to citizens and residents at a heavily subsidized rate at government clinics and hospitals. These subsidized services can be accessed using the government-issued Health Card, popularly known as Hamad Card, referring to Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
This article explains the step-by-step process for Qatar Health Card renewal.
JULY 2024 UPDATE
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) issued a public notice warning on 21 July 2024, about fraudulent messages related to health card renewals that contain suspicious links. HMC advises patients and members to be vigilant and avoid opening links or SMS from unverified sources.
“We kindly request all patients and members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from opening any SMS messages sent by unverified sources. These messages may contain fraudulent or suspicious links that claim to update your personal information or health card,” HMC stated on X.
Advantages of Qatar Health Card
Hamad Health Card entitles the holder to subsidized consultations and prescriptions. Consultations or non-emergency treatments may cost extra but will be subsidized for those with valid health cards. Holders of a health card can also have their prescriptions filled at a government-run pharmacy at subsidized rates.
People with private medical insurance are also encouraged to apply for a Health Card in case they need to visit one of the government facilities.
