As an Indian citizen living in a foreign country, renewing your passport can seem stressful. However, if you know the updated process, you can do your passport renewal easily without any hassles.
In Qatar, you can renew your Indian passport in three different places: Indian Embassy, ICC (Indian Cultural Center), and ICBF (Indian Community Benevolent Forum). You can do the renewal through any of these places, depending on your convenience. All you need is to know the latest procedure and plan in advance.

When To Renew Indian Passport
An Indian passport can be renewed up to one year before it expires. If the demand for passport renewal is very high during a period, the Embassy may restrict this to three or six months.
An Indian passport may still be renewed irrespective of its expiry date if one of the following conditions applies:
- The pages in the passport have been used up
- Change of personal details in Indian passport (name, address etc.)
- Change in passport holder’s appearance
- Change in passport holder’s signature
- Loss or damage of Indian passport
Note that some countries do not issue new visas if the passport is not valid for at least six months. In such cases, make sure to renew your passport before your travel.
Also, some countries do not accept passports with fewer than two pages remaining. Check your passport to make sure it has enough pages for your visa. Applicants who travel frequently may opt for a Jumbo Passport that contains 64 pages.
Documents Required For Indian Passport Renewal in Qatar
You will need the following documents to renew your Indian passport in Qatar:
- Completed Application Form
- Original Passport
- Copy of the Passport
- Copy of Qatar ID
- Two colour photos (50 x 50 mm) with white background
For minors, you need to present the original passports, passport copies and QID copies of the child’s parents. You will also need parents’ declaration in Annexure D Form. In case the father is not residing in Qatar, the mother should obtain a NOC from the father.
For a newborn passport, you need a child’s Birth Certificate (original + copy), Marriage Certificate and Birth Registration Form in addition to the above.

Indian Passport Renewal Fees in Qatar
Below is the fee for Indian Passport Renewal as stated on the Indian Embassy website (updated July 2022):

The above fee includes QR 8 towards the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF).
If you renew through ICC or ICBF, they will charge a service fee (QR 10) in addition to the above consular fee.
Indian Passport Validity
Below are the normal validity of regular Indian passports. Under certain conditions, the passport issuing authority can issue a passport for a shorter period.

How To Renew Indian Passport in Qatar
Indians living in Qatar have three places where they can apply to renew their passport:
- Passport Renewal Through the Indian Embassy
- Passport Renewal Through ICC (Indian Cultural Center)
- Passport Renewal Through ICBF (Indian Community Benevolent Forum)
Please note that the Indian Embassy is the primary authority responsible for issuing the passports on behalf of the Government of India. ICC and ICBF only act as liaison services by collecting the applications from the public and handing them over to the Embassy for processing.
As ICC and ICBF working hours are longer than the Embassy, you can access them even during evenings and Saturdays.
1. Passport Renewal Through the Indian Embassy
With effect from 15 December 2022, an online appointment is NOT required to visit the Indian Embassy in Qatar for passport renewal or any other consular service.
Below are the steps for passport renewal through the Indian Embassy:
Step 1: Create an application form using the Passport Seva portal
Here is the link to the new Passport Seva portal.
- On this page, select the country “Qatar”.
- Create a USER ID by clicking on the “Register” link.
- Login using the USER ID.
- Click on “Apply for Ordinary Passport”; Select “Applying for Re-issue of Passport” and the reason for re-issue.
- Select the application type and booklet type; Click “Next”.
- Enter applicant details, family details, address details, previous passport details etc.
- Once you complete all the forms, you can see a preview of the new passport. If you need to change something, you can go back and make changes.
- Submit the form online.
Step 2: Take a printout of the application form
Once the online application is completed, your EAP-1 Form will be generated as a PDF file. Take a printout of this for taking to the Embassy.
Step 3: Affix your recent coloured photograph
You will need two colour photographs (50 x 50 mm) with white background. Taking photos with coloured or dark glasses or wearing a uniform is unacceptable. Refer to the passport photo guide for more details.
TIP: Get your latest photo taken in a professional photo studio as they would know the required quality. Bad photo is a common reason why many applications get rejected.
You can approach any typing centre if you need assistance filling out the forms. During the Embassy working hours, you can also see some freelancers near the Embassy entrance who will fill up the form for a small fee.
Step 4: Go to the Indian Embassy
- Parking space is limited at the Embassy premises.
- Show the printed application form at the first counter. They will review the form and give them back to you.
- Please be seated in the waiting area.
Step 5: Submit the documents and pay the required fees
- When your name is called, go to the counter.
- At the counter, submit the printed application and the required documents, and pay the fee.
- The signature must be done in the presence of the Embassy’s Submission Officer.
- You will be given a receipt with the date for collection. Normally this is the fifth working day after submission. In case additional verification is required, this may take a few weeks.
Step 6: On the collection day, go back to collect the passport
- For collection, a prior appointment is not needed.
- At the Embassy entrance, show the submission receipt for entry.
- Please be seated in the waiting area. When your name is called, go to the counter.
- You can get the new passport as well as the cancelled old passport.

Indian Embassy Qatar Passport Renewal Tracking
The Indian Embassy in Qatar does not offer a tracking system for passport renewal applications. When you submit the documents for renewal, you will be given a receipt with the date for collection. You can directly go to the Embassy on the mentioned date.
2. Passport Renewal Through ICC Qatar
Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) is an apex body of the Indian expatriate community functioning under the patronage of the Embassy of India for the advancement of social and cultural activities of the Indian community in Qatar.
Renewal of Indian passports can also be done through the ICC office at Abu Hamour. Currently, the consular services at ICC do not need prior appointments.
The documents required and the application process are the same as the Indian Embassy. Just like the Indian Embassy, you can also find some freelancers near the ICC entrance who can fill up the form for a small fee.
For consular services through ICC, there is an additional service fee of QR 10 other than the normal Embassy fee. You can also track your application status on the ICC website.
For the collection of passports from ICC Qatar, a prior appointment is not necessary. You have to show the original receipt given at the time of submission of the application.

You can track the status of your passport renewal application using the tracking page on the ICC website. All you need to do is enter the application number.
3. Passport Renewal Through ICBF Qatar
Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) is one of the four apex bodies under the aegis of the Indian Embassy of Qatar, carrying out its task completely selfless, non-profit-oriented and philanthropic manner to help generally the needy and the working class from the community.
Renewal of Indian passports can also be done through the ICBF office at Nuaija. Currently, consular services at ICBF do not need prior appointments.
The documents required and the application process are the same as the Indian Embassy. ICBF Service charge is QR 10 for each service.

Important Points To Note
- Only residents holding valid Qatar IDs can submit their applications in person for the reissue of passports.
- In the case of casual visitors, only Emergency Certificate is issued for return to India.

How many months before we can renew Indian passport?
A new passport can be applied for within one year of the expiry of the old one. It is recommended that applicants submit their passport renewal applications at least three months before their passport expires.

Some of the conditions to remove ECR is having ANY of these : Education of 10th standard or above / Age 50 or above / Stayed 3 years abroad / Paying income tax. If she meets any of these, she can apply via Indian Embassy by paying QR 40.
Documents Needed : EAP- 2 Form, One Passport size photograph, Original Passport, Passport Copy, Document of Eligibility.
If she doesn’t meet any of these, please check directly with Indian Embassy.

Hi Syed, Normally it takes 5 working days through Indian Embassy in Qatar. If you have already applied, your receipt will have the date of collection.

Hi Chandra Mohan, Eventhough it is not necessary to add spouse name in passport, it can be helpful in some situations where you need to prove relationship. For eg, while travelling abroad or applying for a visa. It is more convenient than carrying a marriage certificate during travel.

If there is no ECR stamp, it means your status is ECNR.
Hi, I need to renew my passport which is only due for expiry in June 2017 due the fact that I will not have any blank pages (for visas that I will require to be stamped), will the Indian embassy allow an early renewal – I intend to apply for a jumbo passport? The Indian Embassy definitely accept for renewal if your passport pages are exhausted (it is one of their declared Consular Services).
Since the passport was issued out of India, it may take few weeks extra for verification (in some cases).
Please consider this if you are planning to travel in coming weeks.

My Indian passport was isuued from Indian Embassy in European Country. I am looking to renew it from Doha now as I am resident here. It is machine readable. Embassy is saying it may take 10 days to 45 Days until they check in their system. Also, I want to put Qatar Address not my European address. What is the procedure? Will they change my address to Qatari Address? I do not have address proof ( Stil in Sharing Accomodation). Can I go for Tatkal Passport renewal. They are saying they may renew it for only 01 year. After, that again I have to apply for 10 years passport. Nothing is clear. Does any body has first hand experience ? Also what time I should go there. Should I go at 6 AM.

1) You cannot change the address to Qatar address as it is not permanent address.
2) In some cases they renew only for 1 year and extend it later to 10 years, especially when passport was issued outside India. Here is the experience of one reader:

3) Embassy opening time has been revised to 9 AM since last week. Earlier it was 8 AM. It is better to reach 1-2 hours in advance as there will be long queue.
Dear NRI Café: Further to my comment 903 & your response. I checked with the ICC as well as Indian Embassy. Both confirm that the passport has to be renewed. Following formal e-mail response is received from the embassy in response to my query.
“No this wont be valid after the stipulated time given and hence you have to apply for a new passport. Hope this clears your query.”

Dear NRI Café: Thanks for the prompt response. My passport has machine readable characters, but these characters include expiry shown as April 2015 & not the extended date of April 2024. The extension endorsement is handwritten one. Is it still OK?

There is no written rule on this as it is a rare case. There is a risk that when you travel, the passport reader might show the date as expired. If the new date is entered in the database, it should be fine. But we still feel that it is better that you apply for renewal or atleast confirm with Indian Embassy.
