If you’re planning to extend a Family Visit Visa in Qatar, one of the key requirements is completing a medical test at the Medical Commission. This test ensures that visitors meet the country’s health and safety standards before extending their stay.

In this guide, we’ll explain when and where to do the medical test, what documents and fees are required, the procedure, and how to check your results online.

When to Do the Medical Test for Visit Visa Extension in Qatar

After a visitor arrives in Qatar, the visa sponsor will receive an SMS reminder to complete the medical test if an extension is needed. However, it may take up to three days for the visitor’s entry details to appear in the system. It would be ideal to take the test three days after arrival to ensure your information is updated in the system.

You can take the test any time before the visa expires, but since results can take up to three working days, it’s best to complete it within the first three weeks of entry to avoid last-minute issues.

Qatar Medical Commission Location

All medical tests for visit visa extensions must be done at the Medical Commission Office in Doha, which is the official government medical testing centre.

Medical Commission Timings

  • Sunday to Thursday: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Friday & Saturday: Closed

Pro Tip: Afternoon sessions (especially mid-week) are usually less crowded. On busy days, token distribution may close 1–2 hours before the official closing time.

Documents Required for Medical Test

Bring the following documents to complete the medical test process:

  1. Original passport of the visitor
  2. Clear copy of the visit visa, with a contact number written on it
  3. Debit or credit card for payment (cash not accepted)

Fees for Medical Test

  • Fee: QAR 100 per person
  • Payment method: Debit or credit card only (no cash)
  • If you don’t have a card, there is a bank counter near the women’s entrance that issues temporary debit cards for a small fee.

Entrances to Medical Commission

The Medical Commission has separate entrances for male and female visitors:

  • Male Entrance: Go straight, then turn right after the main building
  • Female Entrance: Turn right immediately after the main gate

Dress Code For Female Visitors

Women must wear ankle-length dresses or pants. Dresses above knee length are not allowed.

Men are not allowed to accompany female visitors inside, even if they are relatives. If the visitor needs help, one female companion is permitted.

For the men’s section, only the visitor is allowed entry (except for elderly or disabled visitors). If the visitor is using your card for payment, share the PIN in advance.

Note: There are multiple entrances for men — one for X-ray and another for employment medicals. Confirm with security that you’re at the correct one.

Medical Test Procedure

The medical test screens for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and includes a chest X-ray for tuberculosis (TB).

Here’s what to expect step-by-step:

  1. Collect a token from the entrance machine or a staff member.
  2. Wait until your number appears on the screen and proceed to the registration counter.
  3. Submit your passport and visa copy with contact details.
  4. Pay QAR 100 using a debit/credit card.
  5. Receive your documents back with a printout containing your MC number.
  6. Go to the Blood Test area (signs are clearly marked).
  7. The receptionist will issue a test bottle and guide you for blood sample collection.
  8. Proceed to the X-ray section for the chest scan.
  9. Once both tests are done, you may leave.

Sometimes an X-ray is done before the blood test. The staff will guide you depending on availability. In either case, you have to do both tests on the same day. There is another room for a physician’s check-up, which is not needed for a visit visa extension.

Duration:

Depending on the crowd, the process can take 30 minutes to a few hours. The X-ray and blood test orders may vary based on availability.

No physician’s check-up is required for a visit visa extension.

Medical Test Result

Results are usually available within 24 hours, but may take up to 3 working days.

If the sponsor has Metrash linked to the phone, the text results will be sent via SMS.

Otherwise, you can check the results online on the Ministry of Public Health website. On this page, select Visa Number or MC Number (the number from the medical test receipt) as the Identity type. Enter the date of the medical test and click on “Search”.

  • Please allow up to 72 hours for your results to be updated.
  • You can check the results of the previous 3 months only.
  • If medical results are not reflected in the MOI system after 72 hours, please consult the Medical Commission Counter

Medical Test for Children

Children on a visit visa do not need a medical test. Previously, a QAR 100 fee was charged for issuing a medical report, but according to recent updates, the Medical Commission no longer charges this fee.

Visit Visa Extension After Medical Test

Once the visitor passes the medical test, the sponsor can extend the visa immediately through:

  • The Metrash2 mobile app, or
  • Any MoI Service Centre
  • Extension fee: QAR 200 per 30 days

For first- and second-degree relatives, the visa can be extended up to 150 days beyond the initial 30 days (a total of 180 days).

When extending via Metrash, double-check the number of days selected. The default is 150 days, which means you’ll be charged for a five-month extension.

If you renew the same visa a second time, another medical test is not required.

If you are renewing the same visa for a second time, a medical test is not required again.

Key Takeaways

  • Take the medical test 3 days after arrival and at least 1 week before visa expiry.
  • Tests are done only at the Medical Commission in Abu Hamour.
  • Bring the visitor’s original passport, visa copy, and card for payment.
  • Medical test fee is: QAR 100 per person.
  • Results are available in 1–3 days via Metrash or the MoPH website.
