Doha International Book Fair (2024): Visitor’s Guide

The Doha International Book Fair is set to return for its 33rd edition on May 9, 2024, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) in Qatar. The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, is a highly anticipated occasion for book lovers, intellectuals, publishers, and authors from various fields.

Running for ten days, from May 9 to 18, the book fair is expected to attract a high turnout of visitors, as it has in previous years.

About Doha International Book Fair

The Doha International Book Fair has become one of the most popular events among bibliophiles in Qatar. The fair is known for its wide range of books, including local, Arab, and international publications. In addition, a plethora of local, Arab, and international publishing houses will participate in the event, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which intends to showcase its literature and culture.

The book fair is not just a platform for publishers and authors to showcase their work, but also an opportunity for visitors to engage with literature and participate in various cultural activities. The event will feature book signings, discussions, and workshops, with a focus on promoting reading and learning.

Exhibition History

The first launch of the exhibition was held in 1972 under the supervision of the Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariya. It would be held every two years but since 2002 it became an annual activity.

The Fair has gained international acclaim after it succeeded in attracting the largest and most important publishing houses of the world.  More than 20 publishing houses participated in the first exhibition and reached currently to 340 publishing houses representing 34 countries on an area of 29,000 square meters.

Since 2010, Doha International Book Fair is selecting one of the countries as ‘Guest of Honour’ of the exhibition and so far the United States, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Japan, Brazil, Germany and France have had the honour of becoming the guest of honour in the Fair.
