Qatar will be hosting the FIFA World Cup from 20 November to 18 December 2022. With tens of thousands of visitors attending the tournament, there will be crowd control measures like traffic regulations and changes to working hours.
This article will discuss the changes to working hours during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Government Working Hours During FIFA World Cup
From 1 November 2022 to 19 December 2022, the working hours for the government sector will be from 7 am to 11 am.
During this period, 80% of government employees will work remotely (work from home), while 20% will work from their offices.
The security, military, health, and educational sectors are excluded from these decisions.
The Cabinet announced these decisions as part of Qatar’s preparations to host the World Cup.
Private Working Hours During FIFA World Cup
According to the Cabinet decision, companies that operate in the private sector will conduct their business as usual.
This means there would be no changes to the working hours of private employees.
School Working Hours During FIFA World Cup
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has decided that the working hours of students and staff in public and private schools during the period November 1 to 17, 2022, will be as follows:
- The working hours of governmental and private schools will be from 7 am to 12 noon.
- Students’ hours in governmental and private schools, during the period from 1st to 3rd of November, will be from 7 am to 12 noon.
- During the end of the first semester exams period (from 6 to 17 November), hours for students in public schools and private schools that apply national standards will be from 9 am to 11 am.
The mid-year school vacation will be from 20 November to 22 December 2022.

The working hours of staff and students/children in private nurseries and education centres for people with disabilities are as usual before and during the World Cup.
Shopping Mall Hours During World Cup
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has decided that working hours in commercial complexes will be until 2 am at the least during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The decision will come into effect from October 15 and will continue until the end of the World Cup.
Shops and dining areas in Souq Waqif will be allowed to stay open 24 hours a day starting in November.
Corniche Closure During World Cup
The Cabinet has also announced that Doha Corniche will be closed to vehicles during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Doha Corniche will be designated for pedestrians only from 1 November o 19 December 2022.
